Absolutly. I do not want that for them. My husband says it won't happen if we correct them, but I disagree. If they are in schools down here they will pick it up.

With all the child abductions now a days--I would think there would be bigger fears than your child picking up Texas slang or an accent--God forbid!

Did you or your husband not realize when moving to a Southern state that your children would most likely pick up the accent regardless of you correcting them? They are going to hear it in school, at play, at friends homes. With all the correcting, I still think they will pick it up.

There's nothing wrong with an accent or "southern twang", just teach them proper grammar. They will definitely pick it up and there's little you can do about that.

I'm britsh, my husband feels they won't pick it up. We don't plan on spending the rest of our lives here, but they are young and I think if they go to school here it will definitely leave am imprint. On the other hand, I know 2 boys who are now in college and went to school here. They talk like their parents, so maybe there's hope after all. I suppose I am being a bit over the top on this. But I don't want to leave here with my children talking with the dialect down here.
