I just want to whole market to flop! Really do. Homes are just to expensive, buying cars is too expensive and to top it off a lot of people are over paid.

OMG, ....You want the market to flop....Why would you wish such ill will on any individual, let alone the entire country, just because you feel that things are too expensive. I was in Austin almost 2 weeks ago, and as an outsider it appears to me that the place is thriving quite well as compared to some of the other areas up here in the "rustbelt". I took a first hand look at several of the area around North Austin and Round Rock and the houses there are very affordable for what you get for the money. As for cars, being too expensive, unless for some reason you insist on having a new car every 2 - 3 years, do yourself a favor and buy a good used one instead of a new one (let the first owner pay for all the depreciation, in the real world a car is NEVER an investment)...As for being overpaid..maybe some, but very few ppl could sit back and say "yeah I am overpaid and got here taking e z street." Most ppl who are making lots of money have worked very hard to make it, and should be entitled to spend it as they wish. Personally I work hard, but don't make 6 figures, choose your goals, live within your means, and try to enjoy life and family for as long a time as you have!!!

I heard that several thousand I/T workers were laid off on Friday in Round Rock, at the I-35 office, and in Parmer.

Most hit were project managers, QA, and bottom performers (and people that were disliked).

Any links to this? I did not see anything on the Statesmen website or on yahoo finance.

i did two searches on google "austin dell layoff" and also "round rock dell layoff" and could not find anything pertaining to the claim above. however, when i did a search for "nashville dell layoff" - there is plenty of readily available information to find - inspite of the fact that the layoff was two weeks ago.

i could be mistaken, but my search didn't tender any facts to backup your statement above.

I also searched and didn't find anything about a major trimming at RR campus - but they are closing the Waco call center - loss of about 250 jobs.

This article says the bulk of the 8800 planned layoffs announced earlier this year are still to come by end of 2007 - early 2008.

Dell closes call center near Waco (broken link)

Dell I/T has about 4,500 people worldwide, so your number would be all of I/T and then some. A link would be helpful.
