Just keep in mind that the hype about Austin has fueled itself to the point that its made the overall impression of city into a fairy tale.

Well I rather like living in a fairytale.

I think Austin's real estate developers and agents have had a hand in the recent outlandish media hype (newspapers, mags, internet and syndicated TV news).

It doesn't take much to buy news these days. (remember how the scumbags GW Bush, dick Cheney, dung Rumsfeld etc got the nations media blabbering about WMDs in Iraq?)

Speaking of football, Texas Tech is coming to town this Sat. Be prepared for angry longhorn fans because there is a good chance the brainless Texas OC Greg Davis will give the game away.

Try to get a job before you come... there are a lot of UT grads that stay in Austin after graduation. It's not an easy place to get a decent job. And it's really tough to get a job when you don't live in Austin. You can make it work if you really want it bad enough though. Good luck!

I moved here from Colorado in 99 and love it!! There are a lot of jobs, just have to network (which is easy), Austin is the smallest big city I've every seen. Get in with a good connected crowd and you'll be ok.

I too am re-locating back to Austin. Was born and raised here and spent over 20 years there before moving away. I'm fully prepared for it to be a whole new place however... That said,

I found a place off of Wood Hollow, called Westdale. There are three properties in the area that are owned by them. I got 675 sq ft. for $615/mo on a 9 month lease. They look really good and are on a good part of town (Far West/Mopac).
