Only slightly disingenuous.

I've hired qualified employees from out of state. I wouldn't hire one who I caught lying to me.

Well, as an update, I have now heard from 4 companies in Austin in just under 2 days. So there is now a real possibility that I could be actually coming that way. Sort of scary. I've been in Cali a looonnng time. That and I have a lot of junk that's accumulated. Anyhow, I also have a few possibilities out here so we'll see.

I wouldn't either...

Providing a local toll-free phone number and local address reflects a candidate's commitment to a region...

A friend that spent years as a hiring manager in Hawaii... said it is a waste of time calling applicants with mainland numbers... she soon realized it was not worth the effort...

Of course, if you're recruiting for a high level executive position... geographic region may be irrelevant... these positions often offer relocation assistance...
