Great places to work in Austin
Hi. I'm just looking for some information/advice on companies in the Austin metro from locals who would best be in the know. Do any of the working professionals out there have suggestions for great places to work in the Austin metro (good working environment) that hire IT people (maybe not immediately, because of the downturn, but in a normal economy). It wouldn't necessary have to be an IT company, but just a place with IT positions. If you have a little extra time, a brief bit about why you think it's a great place work would be a bonus. Thanks in advance

All I can say is good luck. I currently have 4 headhunters and I apply to every job that I qualify for ( I'm also in IT) Bottom line- there are very few IT jobs in Austin at this point. You'd have a much better chance applying in the SF Bay Area than here.

Scio42--AMD is still hiring IT professionals. They have a great location in Southwest Austin as well.
My Best,

So AMD was mentioned. Anyone have any other suggestions?

This is not a completely accurate statement. Most hires made would be in a contract position. You would be working through a contracting agency, not directly for AMD. Only a few rare strategic positions are being filled with direct hires right now.
Contact Volt.

Do not, I repeat, do not try to apply for Dell. They overwork their employees. Keep in mind, I was the one who worked in the warehouses. Never again.
