I don't mean to point out the obvious, but thats a lot of people who CLAIM that on an anonymous message board. Whether its true or people who enjoy the place and want to defend it.. well, who knows.

I don't live out there, so I don't know how loud it really is, but I know how difficult it is to organize people to do ANYTHING. If you can get 30 people to actually go through the process to file a complaint, there's probably a whole lot more that don't like the noise.

The clear pride the guy takes in his obstinence, to go as far as putting a sign up in front of his business taunting the people who suffer from his business... that destroys any credibility he has to me.
As are the people who are claiming on an anonymous messsage board that it rattles their windows. No more credibility there than the other side of the issue. That's why I say that the thing to do is to go out to the complainant's house when they call in a complaint and do the decibel test at their place, NOT at the venue. Only accurate way to find out what's going on.

As far as the sign, one wonders what he'd put up with (how many times the cops had been called out only to determine that there was no violation, as just one example) before putting that sign up.

Default Save Nutty Brown

I think the greedy developers of Bel Terra should pay to insulate the homes there. How dare they move into the area and then expect everyone to change for them. Nutty Brown is an institution that needs to be saved! I do agree Shame on Bel Terra! Take care of yourselves and leave Nutty Brown alone or you can move! You are as bad as moving next to an airport and then complaining about the noise. You should take this up with the developers and have them come to a solution for you. LEAVE NUTTY BROWN ALONE!

How dare those developers build HOMES for people to live in- we'd all be so much better if we just set up camp under the freeway. If you read the report in the paper, the complaints didn't start until the Nutty Brown raised its stage and the people complaining are not necessarily new residents of Belterra. I agree that people shouldn't move some place and then expect the preexisting residents conform to their wishes, but from the news reports I've read, that doesn't seem to be the case here.

I'll just never understand how anyone could be that uptight about free music. It's not like it goes on all night.

IMO, all people need to think a little bit less about themselves and be a little bit more accepting of other people and the things they enjoy!

A. People that enjoy loud music
B. People that enjoy peace and quiet

Which group should be less concerned about their own welfare and allow "others" to enjoy what they want to enjoy?

Both. The venue should keep their music within the legal decibel level limits and not do it EVERY night (and hopefully shut it down at 10 on any weeknight they might have music), and the people in Group B should accept that a few nights as week people will be enjoying the music, within legal limits.

See how easy?

I know I'm getting to this discussion a little late, but I just found this forum while searching on the topic of the Nutty Brown.

I did exactly what you suggested. Last Friday I made measurements at a residence during a show at the Nutty Brown and I wrote the article to report my findings. The measurements weren't made at the request of anyone; I did them strictly to satiate my own curiosity and to have something interesting to write about on my blog, Austin Noise.

Hopefully with dependable, objective test data, people will be able to have better conversations on the topic.

That's unbelievable and I hope the Nutty Brown actually makes it through all of this. The residents who move in should have known what they were getting themselves into. Planners probably need to be a little more careful, and they should have realized that loud music is going to be played at that place. If they're going to develop, it should be with something more compatible with the Nutty Brown.
