Default Hays CISD?

I have heard some people place Hays CISD fairly high up on people's school district ratings (like third or fourth in the region). However, the information I've read (mainly greatschools.net) isn't too wonderful.

Is Austin ISD that bad?

Is there something about Hays CISD that doesn't show up in the stats?

Default HCisd

Like all districts, theres good and not so good. its very different depending on the neighborhood I think. Also there are new schools which havent had much time to be evaluated, also 2-3 more built by 2008 I think.

You might check out Elm Grove Elementary (ours!) we love it!

Also here's the district's site and the school zone map..

Cheers

The schools west of I-35 are great, east of I-35 are bad to horrible. The eastside definitely brings down the rankings.

When you say east of 35, I hope your only talking about East Austin, because the only town East of 35 that has bad schools is Elgin. Round Rock, Pflugerville, Manor, Hutto, Bastrop..These districts are all rated recognized and Exemplary.

I'm speaking specifically about HCISD. the schools in HCISD that are east of I-35 are generally bad and pull down the test scores for the rest of the schools that are west of I-35. Lots of poverty and crime east of 35 in Hays County. About 10 years ago, the sheriff spoke at a local function and said that east of 35 has 20% of the population in the county but had over 85% of the 9-1-1 calls.
