Police Helicopter (Austin, Barton Creek, Riverside: 2009, crimes, college)

Last night around 9:15 - 9:30 PM (11-1-2009), there was a police helicopter circling over my house. I live off of McNeil near Parmer. The helicopter was circling very low and had the search light out. Normally I would not care, however since the search light went directly over my patio, I would like to know who they were looking for and why. I did not see this mentioned anywhere on the news last night at 10:00. Does anyone know what was going on?

Looks like there were a couple of thefts around that time. The APD uses the copter for many things that don't make the news. I've seen it flying over the Barton Creek greenbelt at night a few times, probably tracking some of the homeless or partiers down there... but I don't hear about it on the news. Maybe they are testing infrared there, who knows.

When I lived on Riverside during college, the weekend helicopter spotlight searches were a standard affair.

I don't really miss living over there anymore.
