Texas/austin driving test
Hello, can you please tell me how hard the driving test is and what it entails?
Thank you.

If you've taken drivers ed, you just have to take a 20-odd question multiple choice test. They did away with the driving test around '92.

For us, we just had to turn in our valid out of state driver licenses, and took a picture, and received a temporary license, then got ours in the mail about 10 days later.
What was funny is when we went to state office, we thought it was closed because there was not a line of people coming out the door. It was open, and we got service in about 15 minutes after entering!!! I took the whole day off from work since we were thinking about the 4-5 hours it usually took in CA.

If you are never licensed from anywhere else, then you NEED to take a driving test in Austin to get a TX license.
My wife took the written test and a month later she appeared for the driving test (she was never licensed from anywhere else). And she did get the license. And if a driver like her can get the license... (i hope she don't read this... ), then anybody can.
The hardest part in the driving test would be the parallel parking. Rest everything would be easy.

How long does it take to get a licence if you need to take the test?
And anyone know any links to find an example of the written test?
thanks

Except that my daughter, when she took driver's ed, had to take the driving test. That was in about 2000, give or take a few months.

So you don't have to go to the DPS to transfer previous state's license to Texas license? I've been to the DPS twice (first time I forgot my birth certificate and the second they didn't accept my birth certificate -- needed embossed copy, not a certified copy...) Both times I waited for over an hour in a hot, crowded room only to get my number called and then be sent away...
I have been licensed in a previous state and just need to do the picture and paperwork...nothing else. Can I just go to the state house then (and not waste so much time)?

If you do not have an existing DL from another state, you will have to take a driving test. When I taught my daughter to drive, we practiced parallel parking using the stanchions at the DPS office on North Lamar. She thanked me for making most of our practice driving in the neighborhood near the office. It was thus very familiar to her when she took the actual test and she passed easily.
