As opposed to Texas which does whatever big business wants aka energy 'deregulation'. If Texas keeps ripping off its citizens and allowing big business to run rough shod over the citizens the people will start to leave for greener pastures.

Also wait to see the foreclosure numbers in Texas when property taxes come due. I wouldnt crow about California's problems too stridently when we have our own. How many unemployed Texans simply arent going to be able to pay their sky high property taxes and are going to walk away from their homes at the beginning of next year?

Texas is in a lot more trouble than you realize I think.

Big government does NOTHING well. NOTHING. I'd rather take my chances with big business, where there are competitors, than big government, where there isn't. Foreclosures? Like in California? Property taxes ARE too high- I couldn't agree more. And they only seem to get HIGHER as tax and spend liberals move to Texas. Small government = better government.

Dont be so dramatic. The police, the fire, sewer, water, roads, etc, etc, etc all well run by the government.
Do you want a for profit police force? Come on.

This kind of stuff is why its hard to debate such stridently anti-government right wingers. They are just not logical.

Those dirty liberal socialists (every last one)! How dare they take my money and fund public schools and libraries. I don't have kids, I'll buy my own damn books, and have my own information pipeline, thank you very much. The hell with those who can't afford private education, internet service and all of the other things that come with being fortunate. It's their own fault anyway. ALWAYS!

More simplicity from the fringes. The extreme left wants to give everything away for free and the hard right doesn't like to share.

BOOOOOOOOOO!

Yeah, that would be so cool. Like OCP in RoboCop. Worked out well, that one!

If only it were just the police, fire, water, roads and national defense. Those are the appropriate functions of government. It's problematic, ineffective and costly when the government interferes in the minutae of citizens' lives- for example, the energy audit now in place for Austin homes. I'm all for conserving energy and being energy efficient, and in a selling transaction, the efficiency of a home should be of interest only to the buyer and seller- not the state.

Is the bloating of the federal and state government dramatic? I can think of $12 trillion reasons why it is, but maybe it's not on your radar screen...yet.

Sorry you can't engage in a productive manner. I'd like to stay on topic and not be inflammatory. If Austin- and Texas- are going to stay strong economically and continue to attract people leaving states in poor financial health- we are going to have to keep attracting business and keep taxes and spending low.
