best "luxury" neighborhoods in Round Rock and distance to lake
A friend is moving to Round Rock in about 1 year. They have money and want a big, probably new-ish house with all the amenities - pool, spacious yard, etc. What are the neighborhoods they should be looking at? Also, what are the best luxury hoods for relatively quick access to Lake Travis? If you can estimate number of miles/how long it takes to get to the lake from various areas, that would be great. THanks

Downtown Roundrock is about 20 miles from Lake Travis. There isn't any part of it that is relatively close to Lake Travis. Map http://www.roundrocktexas.gov/docs/cl_etj_muds.pdf
If you want a luxury neighborhood close to Lake Travis you should move to Lakeway, TX or one of those areas. It is right on the shore above the lake.

Like CptnRn said, Round Rock is not close to Lake Travis. There are 3 lakes within 30 - 45 minutes driving distance from Austin. Lake Travis, Lake Austin, and Lake Georgetown. As for luxury neighborhoods in Round Rock, there are:
1) Lake Forest
2) Forest Creek
3) Arbor Place
These are the neighborhoods with homes in the 500k and up range. There are quite a few neighborhoods that have homes in the 250K to 300K range. If you want to be close to the lake, I'd check out Flintrock Falls in Lakeway or River Place or Stiener Ranch.

There are no true "luxury" neighborhoods in Round Rock, as I would define it.
What are the attributes and characteristics you are looking for in a neighborhood? That might be a better way to ask the question.

I agree that you must give better criteria here. I would actually look at Cedar Park if they want to be a bit closer to Lake Travis, but still very close to Round Rock. And, I guess I'll go to the extreme, but I would pick Breakaway Park off of Parmer in Cedar Park if I wanted a nice luxury home. Those are generally between $1 million and $2 million. A price range would help us give better recommendations.

There is also the gated areas in Ranch at Brushy Creek and Champions in Avery Ranch that may work for them.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but I do know that one of the model homes on the golf course in Avery sold for $900,000.
If they need to live nearer to Round Rock than to Lake Travis, they may like Escalera Ranch and that area. Officially Georgetown, but in the southwest corner. There are also a couple of new neighborhoods being developed nearby that are on or overlook the San Gabriel River. This would be a quick drive to Round Rock. I'm guessing it would be a 30-40 minute drive to Lake Travis? and 15-20 minutes to Lake Georgetown?

Well the Champions neighborhood in Avery isn't like the rest of Avery.
Personally, if he wanted to be close to the lake, I would live near the lake maybe he is rich enough to take a helicopter to work.

Drees one story 4000 sqft in champions just sold for 375k. Their are some really good buys in the area. I hold a open house in champions one a month for over the past two years. Its not high end like Seven oaks or Spanish oaks in westlake but i guess you could call it high end for RR. One of those homes in Seven oaks would eat five homes in avery.
