I for one will always be a proud Chicagoan and will always consider Chicago my home .I am from Chicago. I just happen to live in Austin, TX (and cannot wait to leave). Flame away people.

And btw...Austin is supposed to be this cool live-and-let-live type of town...but amazed at the vitriol directed at those who don't share the "Austin is the best" mindset.. especially on this board.

If you go to the bottom of the page on this forum, often they will have links to "similar threads" and those threads can be really outdated. I suspect that's what happened in this case.

I understand what you are saying, but you can't have one without the other.

I was raised mostly in Muncie Indiana but I been in Texas since 1974 and Austin since 1977. I'll always be a Hoosier, no matter where I live, but I also feel like an Austinite, but not so much a Texan, but, more of a "Texas fried Hoosier", and that's the denomonyn I give to myself and it seems to fit. Ever since I've been in Austin, it's felt like i've been on a vacation that never ends. And it still feels like I'm on vacation even though I'm 60 years old and still working a full time job.

I'd rather be from Texas than Austin.

Still a Southerner. But I wouldn't mind being a Texan someday. I just don't feel like I have been here long enough or picked up enough of the culture to call myself a Texan as well as a Southerner.

What is it that I am supposed to accomplish by saying I am from Austin or Texas?

I am here rather accidentally due to where my parents moved to for economic opportunity.

just proud and glad to be an American. (not because of the geography) but because it is a nation that comparison to many others day by the day it gets better and moves forward.

we have plenty to work ahead of u but we can still be pleased with where the country overall is.

Always will be a Chicagoan ...however I do feel the whole Texan vibe growing on me. I love that similar to some aspects in Chicago (mainly sport related there) that people are happy and have such pride in living in this state. It's really neat- and I'm sure annoying to some outsiders who don't like the overly bias texans saying everything is bigger and better here but again I dig the whole pride aspect.

As far as being from austin? No it's more of a I live in austin but I wouldn't refer to myself as an austinite- I'd probably say Texan before ausinite.

I spent my first 32 years in the Norhteast but I do identify as Texan, typically to correct some of the stereotypes folks back East have when they are shocked that I don't have a revolver in one hand and a bible in the other.

Texas has good reason to be proud, though maybe not quite as far as some folks take it!

I was born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas. I identify myself as Arkansan first but I happen to be living in Lubbock, TX.

I love Texas but I will never change to be a Texan.

Since this thread focuses on Austin, I happen to have a question.

Is Austin still laid back and friendly like Texas in general where it is easy to make friends? The growth in Austin has been explosive for a few years so I am wondering if Austinites has changed to be more fast paced and not so friendly.
