Dang! It's becoming harder and harder to give a big rat's ass on any of it anymore!
Now that a sad state of affairs when you look at the playing field and say, what the hell, it's sunk to such a level I don't even want to think about it, much less be involved with it.
And that's my point right there. The idea that any democrat, regardless of policy beliefs, education, or experience, is automatically a failure JUST because they are a democrat. That only a republican is able to run the state.
Liberals do the same. Like 1mintjulep who doesn't even know who Bill White is, but if he's a democrat he's got her vote.
How can you cast a vote for someone and not even know what they stand for? Is your life so busy that you can't take 30 minutes out in the next year and a half to use the wonderful internet to at least see which candidate best represents you? This is the point I was trying to make (perhaps not very well). The problem with American Politics is uneducated voters. Not stupid voters. Not voters that didn't go to college. Voters who have no idea what is going on but go and vote anyway.
This is sensible. I usually vote R, but not always. I vote the candidate, not the party.
Houston mayor Bill White officially announces his intention to run for governor of Texas - 12/04/09 - Houston News - abc13.com (http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/politics&id=7152725 - broken link)
Oh BentBow. What does one expect from a man who goes across the city-data boards calling people retards?
I think it's funny that you said "and you got nuttin!!!" as if by copying and pasting the first 8 links you found when you googled the name Bill White is you having "sumthin!!!".
So let's take a look at what you have provided us.
1) The first quote you provided is from me, and it is brilliant.
2) Then you provide 2 links. One that is too another thread on City-Data.com, and really does not provide any proof of your false statement that Bill White wants to turn "Texas into one big illegal alien sanctuary". The other link is simply to a news paper article announcing Bill White is running for governor? No one disputed that Bill White is running, so I don't know why you provided evidence. Keep this in mind readers, it's a recurring theme.
3) You provide a 2nd quote, but it does not speak to your "sanctuary" theory. It just states some people criticize him. I am sure this is true of all politicians. Notice how it just says he has criticism, it doesn't actually provide the reader with information to see if the criticism is true or not. I could criticize the pope for eating grilled cheese. It doesn't mean he actually did it or that it would matter if he did.
4) You then provide 3 more links to articles...........STATING BILL WHITE IS RUNNING FOR GOVERNOR. Once again, no one is disputing this fact. It's self evident. But you pepper your post with links to make it seem like you know what you are talking about. None of these links stated anything negative about Bill White or any candidate. Certainly none of them back up your "sanctuary" ramblings. They just state he is running.
5) You then provide another, frankly libelous, unsourced quote. You were quite weasly about it too. When you provide a link and then put in a quote, you make it sound like you are quoting from that source. But you weren't. The quote you provide is not in the article you linked. It's just something you made up or copied and pasted from one of your raving lunatic friends. Once again, it's just opinion and not backed up by fact. In the newspaper biz, that's called distoring the facts. I just call it trickery.
6) You then say "and you got nuthin!!!" as if you have achieved some sort of victory. I provided the specific bill that Mayor White supported advocating deporation of certain immigrants. That way anyone could reasearch it. The example I provided was easibly verifiable, and spoke directly to your slanderous lies of illegal alien sanctuaries. You put in a bunch of links stating Bill White is running for Governor. You obviously did not read the articles, or you would have seen that 4 of them ARE THE SAME ARTICLE, just from different sites. So I refuted your lie, you did nothing to refute my truth.
So, you my friend, got nothing.

Dang! It's becoming harder and harder to give a big rat's ass on any of it anymore!
Now that a sad state of affairs when you look at the playing field and say, what the hell, it's sunk to such a level I don't even want to think about it, much less be involved with it.
I notice a lot of voter apathy in all political races, not just Texas Governor. I will never vote for Perry, but I can stand back and say "Yeah, he has done some good things". Are we all so wary of politicians that we just assume all of them are losers? Some are of course, but are our choices for governor (so far) that abysmal?
I would not vote for either of them, they are both sub-standard and corrupt! I hope that John Sharp runs, he is very smart and has been in Texas for a long time and can help restore our credibility (especially in education).
Texas has become a joke to the rest of the country, we are so wealthy yet we fall far behind in education and social services. Too many businesses have gone elsewhere because of it.
I am always surprised how easy it is to dupe naive people into believing whatever you want. BentBow posts this accusation and never really follows it up with examples or proof. Really, whenever I see someone just make an off the cuff remark, it immediately causes my BS sensor to chime in. But 2 other people, who I otherwise thought were smart based on their past posts, immediately chime in "oh! I knew there was a reason I didn't like Bill White!".
You don't like Bill White because he is a Democrat, not because he wants to import every Mexican south of the Rio Grande to Houston. Really, when you are looking for a reason to dislike a candidate because of their political party, you don't look to deep into accusations against them.
And that is the REAL problem with American Politics. It's not special interest groups, or lobbyists, or really even crooked politicians. Those things exist of course, but they pale in comparison to UNEDUCATED VOTERS. Voters who go "oh, a democrat, I bet he eats babies". And not to unfarily malign conservatives, liberals are just as guilty.
So although I don't know whom I am voting for in the gubenatorial race, I will go ahead and give you some information that you were too lazy to look up yourself.
Bill White, like most liberals, believes that our immigration laws are ineffective. Bill White, like most liberals, doesn't want to punish and deport otherwise working illegal immigrants who contribute to our society. Bill White DID support the federal government's 287(g) program, which trains local jailers to assist immigration agents in DEPORTING illegal aliens who have felony records.
This did not endear Bill White to his base, that is liberal democrats. And it also proves that BentBows statement about Bill White is a whole lot of, frankly jingoistic, hooey.
So when we are looking at gubenatorial candidtates, let's be honest. Let's past political parties, and say "Hmm, which candidate actually stands up for what they believe in? Who practices what the preach?"
Rick Perry? Who claims Texans should be sovereign and says we should limit the role of government, but wanted to build a Trans Texas Corridor and use manifest destiny laws to take farming land away from Texas families?
Kay Bailey? Who claims government should have a limited roll in industry, and rallies against financial bail outs, even though she voted for TARP funds in the Senate?
or Bill White? A Democrat in a hugely Republican state who desperately relies on liberal votes but still went against his base on illegal immigration because it made the streets of Houston safer?
If you need to vote Republican then vote republican. It is the responsibility of every citizen to vote for whom they think will be the best governor. But please, please, please, be an EDUCATED voter.
Totally agree. As a Houstonian, I did not vote for White the first time. I certainly did the second time, based on the job he did cleaning up after Out-of-Town Brown. He handled the 2 hurricane situations well - both Katrina and Ike. His views on handling illegal immigrants are based on practicality and what is best for the city - not knee-jerking reactionism. He has gone after the polluters that have made Houston one of the most polluted cities in America - all the while having to fight the federal administrations' aiding and abetting of those polluters. I can't think of a campaign promise he hasn't kept, all the while handling things in a very businesslike and calm manner. Oh, he did get angry at FEMA during the aftermath of Ike and was recorded cursing at them for their incompetence. Most of us cheered.
I will be voting for him as governor. He doesn't have a "dazzling" personality or "good hair". He just gets it done. As Americans, we have to start making better decisions on who leads in government, based on more than who we want to have a beer with.
Texas is not a good place for people with disabilities, the elderly or people who need specialized training or retraining compared to all the other states who have budgets and produce as much as Texas does. Education is probably our most shameful legacy, we rank near the bottom of all states.
If you look at the state budget the vast majority is on criminal justice. We spend lots of money on punishment but do nothing to prevent crime! Texas was not always like that. We need another Bob Bullock to get us back on track.
Rick Perry could have done great things with his discretionary budget that would have benefited many Texans, instead he fed his own GREED. I think that when he was stopped for speeding told the whole story about him-he thinks he is above the LAW! If it were you or me we would have gone to jail.
RICK PERRY ONLY CARES ABOUT HIMSELF. HE KNOWS HE WILL NOT GET A JOB ANYWHERE ELSE IF HE LOOSES HIS GOVERNORSHIP. VOTE THE BUM OUT!

Texas doesn't rank near the bottom on education. Rather it is near the middle of most rankings if you actually look up data. Massachusetts is typically at or near the top.
Looking at the state budget creates an incomplete picture of where money is spent. You must look at local government spending. Hopefully you know most K-12 education costs are paid by ISDs and the local property taxes they collect.
Texas does less at the state level than many states - and relies on cities and counties for much government activity.
