OK, there is a secret fast track way, but you have to earn it ...

1) Attend at least one Willie Nelson concert in the next 12 months.
2) Purchase Stevie Ray Vaughan's Texas Flood CD and keep in your car CD player for 1 month, playing everywhere you drive. Purchase ZZ Top Tres Hombres CD and do the same after Stevie Ray.
3) Visit the Alamo

6) Take a road trip to El Paso and stop and eat a Chicken Fried Steak lunch at the truck stop in Ft. Stockton, in the smoking section.

8) Treat some out of town guests to BBQ at Salt Lick.
9) Go dancing at the Broken Spoke and get rowdy enough to be kicked out

Finally, once you've completed to aforementioned challenges...

10) Call three friends in your former home town and renounce your status there, declaring yourself a Texan. End the call with "Hook 'em Horns!"

1. Easy. I love Willie and will attend a concert ASAP
2. Already done...in fact I can play many of those tunes on guitar!

4. I'll probably do that this year
5. No problem...I'm from the Great Lakes..my skin is thick with soot and heavy metals

Well, now...I can renounce my status in Pennsylvania, but I will NEVER renounce the Pittsburgh Steelers. Once a Steeler fan, always a steeler fan! But I will cheer for the Longhorns! I cheer for them now!

In my opinion, once you've been here about 5 years, it's safe to say you're a Texan. You can do just about everything on that list in that time. Although, I think you could live just about anywhere with no air conditioner and still have it count. I did it in Houston, and that was a killer!

Didn't realize anybody actually cared about this. Being Texan is a birthright, it cannot be earned. Everybody else in the state is just a carpetbagger. :-)

I respectfully disagree with you! As Jenbar so eloquently put it...if you live here, pay taxes here, attend school here, work here....then GUESS WHAT?
