I agree it's true after a certain amount of time, but unless you're born or had bred into you true southern ways, it's not easy for some people to acquire. Although, I do have a new friend that moved here from Seattle, and except for the accent, she's well on her way..One of the best hostesses I've ever met, and one of those people who never meet an enemy. But just so I'm not pickin', New Yorkers are also some of the friendliest people I've ever met, believe it or not!

As a native of San Antonio and lifelong Spurs fan, I take great umbrage at your untimely show of support for the Cavaliers.
Please complete a pilgrimage to the Alamo and show due respect at a Championship game by waving a Spurs banner (you can keep a Cavalier banner in your pocket as long as it is not visible) from an expensive seat as your pennance.
You may resume public support of the Cavaliers after they have lost the tournament and will greatly require your support in their time of despair.
And Yes, 9 outta 10 ain't bad......but you can do better!

Ha!
Cavs in 7. LeBron takes over
I wish I could get to some games. Last I checked, the worst seats were going for about $400
Actually, I like the Spurs and would be rooting for them if they weren't playing the Cavaliers! They will probably be the only Texas team that I'll ever watch regularly.
Texans, Rockets, Astros...nah.
Cowboys(never!), Mavericks(actually, I did root for them last year), Rangers, Stars...nah.
UT...maybe. As long as they aren't playing the Buckeyes

brattpowered I think it depends more on what you want to be called, and not on a general consensus. I have been here for two years, and am a proud Austinite. I will never be a Texan.
Umm...what's the difference between being an Austinite and a Texan? How can you be one without the other?

I've never owned a pair of Stetsons or Justins in my life and I've lived in TX all my life (city girl though!)!! My freshmen year in college (1996) I became good friends with a girl from Seattle. She swore she would never say the word "y'all". One day our senior year, she slipped!!!!!!! I laughed so hard I almost peed in my pants. From that day forward, us native Texans called her our own.

I don't think you can be one without the other. Texas is a big place with lots of different styles from city to city, but one thing they have in common is that they are Texans.

Foma...I own a pair of Justins and I live in California! But...I've always been a country girl stuck in the city. I have "coped" with city life by having horses!
What's funny about that is now we might be going to Texas and I don't have any horses now! But I have been riding a friend's horse and hopefully I can find someone down there who also could use some help getting their horse out.

I think when you feel like a Texan you can call yourself one. No set timeline. But let me add to this, Austin is exactly the most southern place.

Steve,
Can you please explain your last line?
I agree with your first 2 sentences...can you please tell me whether you are a native Texan or a tranplant? Just curious!

I'm not sure what you meant by that either. I do agree with the first part, But I do think there are more "Southern" places in Texas than Austin. Granger, Thrall, Bandera, maybe kerrville, La Grange, Brazoria, Sweeny, Mineola, Tomball, etc...These are places that feel more "Southern" to me.
