Question Gay-tolerant communites in the Hill Country

My partner and I are considering relocating to the Austin area from Seattle. We are looking for a home in a smaller older community/neighborhood outside Austin. Our budget is around 200k. We are drawn to Wimberley....not sure why except that when we play around on the MSL many of the houses that appeal to us seem to be in this area.

I was wondering if their are other communities that we should be looking at. We are quiet , private, and looking not for a gay "scene" but at least tolerance and a feeling of comfort.

Thanks.

This is my advice to you, some of it I learned myself from the city data website. Don't ever and I mean ever let anyone or any group make you feel you can't live where you want to. If you were to add up the land area of the USA that would be considered gay unfriendly, you would have so little choices, you would drive yourself crazy trying to find a place to live. I think more and more gays are realizing that. You pay taxes, and you help support and defend this country, live where you want whether in Austin, or Birmingham for that matter, anywhere.

I can't imagine people in Wimberly giving you any problems, especially since it has such a high concentration of Artists, etc..

Hey David,
If you want ot be close to "the real Austin" you should check out areas like Travis Heights, anything in 78704 and Hyde Park (just North of UT). I've sold house in in all of these areas and I thil you will like what you see.
Good luck,
CJ

Thanks... it looks way out of our price range (@200k)... the dozen or so listings in that zip code between $2-250k look like definate fixers w/ small sq.ft.

East Austin, baby!
My cousin and her girlfriend have a huge enclave of gay/lesbian friends in the area.

The hill country can be scary, but san marcos or wimberley are both fine.

Look at these websites

gaydemographics.org...Just the facts
Human Rights Campaign - Working for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Equal Rights

I hope this helps my GLBT friends!

Also, I think Austin just opened it's first GLBT community center.
