I really hope that teachers are harder than ever on students when it comes to this chat speak. Nothing bothers me more than the lazy habits children are learning today.. and I'm not that old!

No, no! That's why they need to be graded for proper spelling and grammar. None of those abbreviations allowed!

Its too late. While I certainly do not advocate teaching these, they are here to stay, and if you are a parent, you better know what they all mean! Kids love to take in codes, don't fool yourself, languages constantly evolve. (should I have used "do not" instead of don't?)
