The other place we are thinking about moving to at the moment is South Florida, if anyone has experience there too.

Thanks in advance for your opinions!
As long as you are white and asian i am sure its not a problem in most places, though i am amazed that the South(where i was born and raised) has changed that dramatically that no one notices-since people notice it everywhere else in the US from California to Massachusetts, Philadelphia to Portland. but thats good that its not an issue in Texas and the deep south--

Has the South Really moved passed everyone other region in race relations?? hhhhmmmm i might have to check out Mississippi again for my family.

I have no idea about Mississippi. Mississippi, however, isn't Texas, and Texas isn't "the South".

I'm the person who first said that most folks likely wouldn't even notice (and the one with a son with a SO who is of Asian descent). Oh, and I was born and bred and grew up in East Texas. In the 1950's.

Did not bother to read the thread (sorry ) since it has been visted in several forms here over the years, BUT you may or may not. Austin is the same as any other place in the US (probably world) where some people will notice and maybe even take exception. So no one can guarantee that you won't have a problem. However, in bigger cities, it is typically much less of an issue than in more rural areas. I am also guessing that caucasian/asian/hispanic is almost transparent to most people locally here, whereas AA/Caucasian is propbably a little more 'noticeable' just because it is less common, statistically (or so I am guessing, just from my personal observation).

BTW, I would agree that much of E. Texas is very much the deep south. I have worked and travelled there for many years. Not all, but large areas.

cool, I have an asian daughter. I grew up in DFW and most people might not notice as i said--but i think they do notice as many other posters in the Austin rooms have mentioned, but you might be absolutely correct about Asian or hispanice mixing with whites(most people only think black people are a different race)

I can't see that mix an issue anywhere in the USA, and actually would prob get you kudos in areas like Austin, rather than retrobation....
I guess i was referring to what this poster said, sorry

I agree with the above posters, here are my observations below while seeing couples of various combinations below in public when I lived in Austin.

White/Asian-Hardly noticeable(maybe if its an Asian guy/White female not because of bigotry but because it rare). White guy/Asian girl is very common(extremely common in NYC), not noticeable.
White/Hispanic-Not really noticeable.
White/Black-Noticeable but still not many problems.
Black/Hispanic-not really noticeable, unless its a Lighter complexed or White Hispanic.
Black/Asian-noticeable but because its rare.
Hispanic/Asian-not really noticeable, kind of rare too.
I really didn't see any Middle-Eastern or Asian Indians date outside their race, expect for one of my best friends.

I think I got most combinations covered.

great breakdown above. I understand the OP since i am black american, wife is white american and baby is adopted from China. we expect people to notice, that would be silly not to expect them too, but i understand the OP that staring become very uncomfortable, esp when you here stories bout Jasper Tx and redneck(most yankees have never met real southerners before and are afraid of the myths and stories-some being true). but as some said here its all over. Pa, NJ, Oregon, Washington State and CA have many hate groups and lots of violent hate crimes, so it could as easily happen there as it would in TX--and outside of Manhattan people do stare at IR couples in Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago and DC.
