If it works for you, great. If not, prob better to look for diff place. I think people forget how many great cities, large, small, and mid, there are to live in the USA. Also, the expatriate thing is plausible.

I just found out an old friend of mine lives in Costa Rica with his wife and two little kids, and loves it.

As long as you give your area the benefit of a doubt, and work with it, like any human relationship, till you fit it and it fits you, you can be happy. Find a place that is reasonably conducive to your personality, accept blemishes, and work with it. You'll learn to love it, like any mature relationship.

Or, you can flit from place to place, ala immature relationship dynamics, where people bale out at first opportunity, and have too high expectations going in, bordering on idealism....

HEAD . . . . .NAILED IT.

But.....some people are looking for a bigger or smaller city feel. You could give Austin the old college try for years, but if you wanted Austin to be New York City or if you want to be in a New York City type city, this place aint going to do it for you. So, improvise accept appreciate.......or . . . . don't and be miserable.......or .........buy a plane ticket.

What the heck incut.....aren't they expecting you at the Continental at this time.....????( I'm not sure why I'm not there myself....it's always a right move to go there)

Best of luck to you guys in finding what you are looking for in a city, and life in general...
I agree with this. There are other places I would love to live other than austin but every place has some kind of issues so it is about priorities. I would live in southern cal, but I dont want to raise my kids in such a materialistic culture.

I would live in NYC but it is too crowded and has no nature.

I would live in portland/seattle but they are too gloomy and cold.

The only other place I think I would really want to live would be silicon valley. They have a great mix of good sunny, semi-warm weather, outdoors and great city life. I wouldnt want to live in san fran, but would be happy to live close by. I happened to end up in austin and the roots get deeper every year. So the main thing that keeps us from moving is all the friends we have made here. Id still like to live in the bay area some day though.
