Hats off to Austin-Bergstrom International - ranked "best airport" in North America, 2nd best in the world:

Life: Style, Books, Gardening, Health, Fitness and Travel | Statesman.com

and designed by a local firm, at that: http://www.pspaec.com/index.php/government-civic/austin-bergstrom-international-airport-passenger-terminal.html (broken link)

I agree that the airport is great, but boy does the coffee truly stink there. I wish the city hadn't give the exclusive coffee vending rights to Austin Java.

Love the live music venue.
Love the local businesses.
Too bad the cap on prices was lifted so that it costs as much for a sandwich at ABIA as at any other airport. When ABIA was first open, the eateries had to offer food at prices very close to what they charge at their non-airport locations. It was, temporarily, one of the world's cheapest airports for pigging out while you wait.

I find ABIA to be the EASYiest airport by far. I never have to arrive earlier than 60 minutes, even at peak holidays. TSA there is very efficient (and helpful for people with kids) and frankly, my flights are always on time or early (unless a flight is delayed by weather elsewhere). We are truly spoiled here.

The only issue I have with our airport is that all the concessions seem to close at 6:30pm or so... very annoying if you have to catch a flight or arrive later than that.

ABIA is easy to get in and out of but if you are stuck there waiting for a plane it sure is BORING! Nothing to do. Minimal shops, only one bar, over priced food.

I just wish there were more places you could get to with a direct flight. Connecting through Houston or Dallas really gettin tired. Also there is NOTHING for anyone waiting to pick someone up. I remember fondly, waitin in the bar listening to live music with a cold one while friends were arriving.. those days are gone sine 9-11.

It's nice, it's clean, but it's not the best. The one complaint I have is that all of the food, drinks, etc. are INSIDE the terminal. So, if you are picking someone up and their flight is delayed, you are basically stuck sitting at baggage claim staring at the carousels. There is one small coffee shop, but they close at like 7:00. So, if you're there late, you're screwed.

I agree. A Torchy's Airstream parked alongside the passenger drop-off would be pretty convenient and capture a zeitgeist of Austin cuisine.
