Leander Area
Does anyone have any information on the Leander/Lakeline Ranch area? I've been reading the posts on critters and it freaks me out! So I was just curious as to the critter sightings in the area...I know the majority of postings were from people with more than 1-2 acres of land...What is it like in the subdivisions?
Any info would be much appreciated!!
Thank You!

You are more likely to get run over by a car than encounter some of these critters. In fact, I'd bet that you meet a deer before you meet ANY of the other critters you're afraid of.

I hope thats true!!
Do you happen to know much about that particular area in general?
We're considering moving from NY soon, and have family there, but they havent been there that long so I was hoping for some input from locals or at least people who have been there awhile...

Thanks!
Well I'm sure we'll run into a few critters when we first get down there if only b/c of all of the new construction, but I was really hoping that it won't be something that happens often...And what about the "killer" bees I keep hearing about? Is that something I should be concerned about? I have a small child and I'm worried about her not knowing to avoid the bugs if shes on the playground or in the parks!
Also, do you know anything about the Leander school system?

You expect to find critters in newly cleared brush areas so avoid them. The builders will do their best to rid the neighbourhood of them as they go along, but they have as much right to be roaming around as everyone/everything else so there will be few that are resistant. They won't bother you if you don't bother them, more often than not, they'll spot you first and scurry off. Once people start moving in you'll see less of them to the point of wondering if they even exist anymore. Killer bees? <Keeled over laughing> Seriously perople make this out to be the northern version of The Amazon from what I've read on this board! There are bees in the wild, if you spot a nest, call the city or county and usually they will send out bored insect scientists to spend days oohing and aahing over them, then take them away to their dungeon lab somewhere.
I'd be more concerned about fire ants than ANY of the critters people seem to have a phobia for, simply because they are everywhere, and they're annoying! Like any other pest, you treat your yard and home for them. Otherwise, not much to really fear around here, except for the occassional deer jumping over your car as you drive down the county roads. Seriously, I've had a friend get the fright of his life when one attempted to jump over his pickup truck, land on the roof, slide into the back, then get up and jump out the other side of the moving vehicle! He needed more than a sedative @ 8 in the morning.
Leander school district is pretty good. Any specific questions about it? I live in the Round Rock district but did some extensive research when looking to move and my choices were RR, Cedar Park and Leander in this area. Settled on RR only because it's a less stressful commute for me and the difference in school district ratings and personal opinions of parents were so negligible.

That's so funny...I know it sounds strange to be overly concerned about the bugs, but when you don't live with it, it all seems much scarier! I've heard about the ants, and it sounds like they're evil...but they don't concern me as much as everything else! And I didn't know about all the deer in the area, but I don't have the same fear of deer as I do the scorpions, etc...
I'm not sure of any specifics about the schools right now, I still have a few years before I'll be making use of it, just wanted to make sure that I shouldn't avoid that district!
I appreciate all of your help! I'll be looking for you once I think of the next set of ridiculous questions!

I understand, but it's still hilarious to see all these questions that confirm the misconceptions a lot of people have about the Great State of Texas. It's almost like people think the cities/urbanized areas occupy about 2 square miles and the rest is still 19th century wild west. You're not alone either! My parents came to visit, from overseas, for the first time and it was so amusing to hear their version of the fears they had about coming here! They expected to be sharing the roads with horses and carriages and shotgun-toting, boots and hat wearing cowboys ambling down the dusty sidewalks, is the only way I can put it. This from people that had travelled the world extensively, seen numerous pictures of the cities and skylines and such, but still the trepidation...Thankfully, they were properly impressed with the State and are now seriously considering relocation! The grandkids will be glad for the increase in spoilt level and choices I'm sure.
Anytime you have specific questions, go ahead and shoot them. It's easier to address them than post a rambling opinion. There are a lot of great places to live, but I doubt that there are many greater than Texas.

Moving to Leander/Cedar Park, are you?
Hi, Shortie!
I've been in this area since '81 and haven't heard about any real concerns about any harmful critters. I wouldn't sweat 'em at all, especially in subdivisions.
Are you moving from out of state?
If you've never purchased a home in Texas, I can enlighten you on the transaction processes that are quite unique to Texas.
