We are a young professional married couple looking to move back to Austin. We both went to UT, so are familiar with the area but wanted to get some opinions. We are looking to purchase our first home or townhome. This wont be the "family" house as we are a few years a way from having kids. We want to be close enough to Downtown to still go out and also for real estate investment purposes. Maybe live here a few years then rent it out. Budget is probably 200,00-225,000. We were thinking maybe SW Austin? Does anyone have any suggestions of where to look for homes or townhomes? Thanks ; 0 )

You could try 78731 (Mopac/Far West/Steck area) for townhomes.

Some homes in Crestview would be in your price range, as would some north of UT (78756). Also, there's what looks like a cute little home available in 78703 (Brykerwoods) in your price range, but that may be unusual. Southwest there are homes in Village at Western Oaks, Western Oaks, etc. (78749).

Those are areas that are all close in to downtown but also are close to their own kind of "action" - downtown has some of the action in Austin, but there's a whole lot that isn't downtown, as well, and those areas are close to their own shopping, restaurants, etc., as well as being an easy drive downtown.
