CptnRon, you used to drive South Lamar in the 1980's. You say it hasn't changed much since then, but we moved from there in 1996 and it has changed a LOT since we moved. So it's a bit hard to see how you can say it hasn't changed all that much since the 1980's (we moved there in the late 1980's).

Oh, and, you know what? Architects (like the one who bought the two duplexes two doors down from our house in Barton Hills, remodeled them, then designed and built two more houses right next to them, living in one of them, adjoining the Green Belt - yes, in Barton Hills) aren't the only ones who care about how things look.

Yes, if anything the concentration of auto body shops and auto parts stores on south Lamar has drastically declined. Molly Irvins had some great line about south austin and auto parts stores but I can't remember it.

I like south lamar! I also like airport blvd. Neither are the prettiest streets anywhere but they are interesting -- where else would you find the South Austin Museum of Popular Culture or I love Video! Both streets feel "real" to me in ways that the curving, heavily landscaped streets of master planned communities do not.
