My wife and I are considering moving to Austin. I have a job interview there and it looks very promising. What I want to know is, as far as cost of living goes, if I don't want to live in Austin, what are some of the better suburbs of Austin to live in? I'm looking at renting an apartment for a while until we get settled, but I don't have a clue about the Austin area. Any help would be appreciated.

I guess that all depends on where your job will be located. Most people here will probably tell you Steiner Ranch or Circle C. There really aren't any "bad" areas. Although if you want a little more upscale/pricey, then anywhere West of 35 would probably be where you should look. East of 35 is less expensive, but when you say "better" suburbs, It just makes me think West. Star Ranch and TeraVista are probably some of the better subdivisions East. The family friendly, everyone knows their neighbor vibe is all around Austin. No neighborhood has a monopoly on that. Starting North of Austin there is Georgetown, Cedar Park, Leander, Round Rock, Hutto, Pflugerville, Manor, Marble Falls, Jonestown, Lake Travis area, (South) Buda, Wimberly,

We have 2 daughters ages 4 and 1. I have been looking at suburbs, but I don't know anything about the area. The only one that I have heard of is Round Rock. The company is on Wall St. if that helps you out at all. Is that in Northern Austin?
