Only on city-data could a thread mocking hipster culture (that was kind of fun and funny) turn into a "sky is falling in Austin" thread. Awesome.

Rinse. Repeat. Rinse. Repeat.

(there may a few trailers that survive the transition to boutique hotel, it is a work in progress)
****, seriously? C'mon, we've got enough hotels already! It's like they're trying to allow for Austin to become a tourist destination while at the same time driving out that which makes Austin a destination!

I love Austin hipsters. You can find a fine display at any hookah bar! (my kids are total hipsters, ps)

Could not agree more!!!

Also interesting to learn Artsyguy calls himself a hipster. Strange that a self proclaimed hipster would hate Austin so much.

The more things change, the more they remain the same, it seems. Beatniks, hippies, punks, hipsters (and all the way back through the 1940's hipsters - even the names are being recycled!) and the Bohemians of the 19th Century, and on and on . . . ). And each group thinks they're doing something new! And different! And rebellious!

It's sort of cute, when looked at from that perspective. A necessary developmental stage, like puppies or kittens play-fighting. (And, yes, I was a hippie in my day - that's what we all did, pretty much exactly alike, to show how "different" we were from everybody else and how much more "evolved" we were from the older generation and the "straights".)

Good point. Which makes it even more ridiculous how angry some people get about hipsters. As if the hipsters of the "naughts" are different from any of the other "non-mainstream" sub-groups throughout human history.

And what's hysterical is that they're a lot less "non-mainstream" than they think they are!

But the getting angry about them is all part of the process, I think. Again, sort of like puppies and kittens play-fighting, it's developmental.
