Steve, where did you get that figure? Is that folks who buy homes, or the grand total of folks moving from elsewhere into Austin?

First I agree that the heat is a good thing, expecially in the winter. But secondly

If you want employees to work live at working by working 55+ hours, then you(the company) better think about installing some decent beds, showers, restaraunts at the work place.

That's what I can't understand why anyone would work 40 hours to pay rent(morgage) and then work more hours or a second jobs to pay for others expenses? That means they are working 40 hours for a place they'd barely even see 20 hours a month. If my expenses were that high, and my salary that low I would just sleep at or near the work place. But what can I say other than I'm a rebell and I'd better stop this reply before I start curssing.

pss. people. If you are paying late fees on bills, tell the company to go get it from your employer, since it's your employers fault that the bill is late because they aren't paying you enough to be able to pay the bill on time. Hey it's the truth after all!!

I can't remember. I think it was Austin Chamber, but I can't find the stats. Or it might have been one of those moving company migration reports. It's just people moving into Austin, whether they buy or rent.

Steve

There is no real way to get around the city efficiently either Houston has a loop 610 San Antonio has a loop not sure what they call that? Some streets have three different names in Austin It's easy to get lost if you're not from there, road signs not clearly marked and why does the city spend so much time building new things when they don't fix the roads that need repair. The hills are going to make you go through the tread on your tires faster maybe even replace your shock, struts,or suspension sooner.
the good old days N Burent /loop 1 /1325 and why does 290 east start at north I-35 and then pick up at south I-35 290 71? I guess they were to lazy to build 290 as a separate road.

290 isn't an Austin road, it's a state road. Take that up with TxDOT.

I think I asked that question too, Austin , and Texas in General has the weirdest road systme in the USA. I had an job interview in which I had to take the 290. Well as you might guess, when it runs E/W and N/S its kind of confusing.

Its very, very hot in July August and September. I spend most of the time in those months running for shelter lest I melt or burn. YUK! However Austin is awesome, so you wont hear more complaints from me than that. Since you have kids check out the round rock and leander area (suburbs of Austin). The schools there are much better than AISD.

Default 10 reasons not to

-high housing costs (highest in the South)
-poor roads (most congested mid-size City in the US last 6-years, no relief in sight)
-high property crime rate (house break-ins)
-pretentious populace (holier than thou)
-low performing public schools (Austin ISD)
-high population density (crowded)
-VERY liberal ("Keep Austin Weird", they mean it!)
-many panhandlers at intersections (City attracts the homeless' i.e. drug addicts, which leads to more property crime)
-economically divided populace; rich live West, poor live East; middle class has had to move to surrounding cities because of the high housing costs in Austin
-hi tech hub perpetuates high housing costs making it hard for the middle-class person to invest in a home worth having

I've lived here for 32-years, this is what I have observed and concluded.

> 2. Traffic is TERRIBLE
I just spent 4 days in Mexico City. That was eye opening. Our triffic in Austin is wimpy and mild compared to large cities. Yes, it can be frustrating at times, but go drive a big city for a few days then come back and see what you think.

>>> So you're comparing Austin to Mexico City???? LOL Mexico City is in the running for the largest city in the WORLD....Austin barely breaks the top 5 in Texas. Also, Austin is a mid-sized city, so you don't expect big city problems such as terrible traffic.

> 9. Hot in Summer
So what?

>>> So what? Gosh I hate people like you!(in a friendly way!) I was in Austin today(family lives in San Antonio) and I honestly don't know how you guys deal with the heat!( and I live in Arkansas). THis is insane, and to SOME people this heat is too much to handle....I sweat LITTERALLY as soon as I leave the comfort of my car...horrific.
