Moving to Austin is quickly becoming more of a real possibility to us. If we were to build a house and sign the contract before the beginning of the school year, would our daughter (she'll be a 1st grader) be able to attend the school that services the neighborhood we would be building in? The neighborhood we are considering (Meridian) is in the AISD.

Thanks!

I don't know the answer to that but your best bet would be to contact the AISD directly.

When I enrolled my son in RRISD they only wanted either a copy of the property tax bill or a copy of the settlement statement when you close on the house.

It's a case-by-case basis when building a home or under contract. It sometimes depends on when the house is completed. If you contract at the end of the summer and the house won't be ready until after New Years, they probably want you to attend the school of where you're staying, and then transfer at the semester break. If you're going to close a couple of weeks into the school year, they usually approve those so there is no transferring so quickly. You need to call the district for your specific situation.

I think this is the case with all districts.

If you haven't closed (& "building" a house could be a long timeline between "signing a contract" & closeing/moving into a house)....then you should consider renting in an apt. or home that flows into the same school (or at least the same district).

Lots of people walk before closing. The school (district) won't commit until the home is closed.
