Germania sounds great THL. I noticed you recommended them on another thread. I always enjoy reading your comments. I'll definitely get a quote. Thanks for the advice!

THL, I'm not sure if you are supposed to mention it or not, but do you use a local agent with Germania?

Check out AAA, you pay yearly and they have some pretty good rates.

The best rates I was able to get were with Farmers. We'll see how they look after the new homeowners discount disappears though.

I qualify for USAA by virtue of my father, but they weren't even remotely competitive. They claim quality over price, but honestly, the price should at least be in range of the other insurance companies. $1200 versus $600 or even $800 isn't worth it.

You really want to try and bundle the homeowners and auto - you'll get a much better deal. It also depends on whether you want a local agent or you're OK with dealing with a 1-800#. We use 21st Century and their rates are very competitive but you don't have a local agent. Definitely get several quotes - it's amazing what a difference you'll see.

I am considering swtiching form Farmers/State Farm to Texas Farm Beaureu insurance for 2 cars + home. Looks like i will save about 40%. Does anybody have anything bad to say about TFB?

Nope. Been with Texas Farm Bureau for two years. I had hail damage on my roof last year and they paid it off for the roofer and I got some "change" left over from the insurance check...

How closely do you have to be related to someone to get USAA? For example, my brother is in the army...

Get quotes from all of the companies listed.

I did not compare, and just went with AllState a few times (due to past loyalty).
I then realized that I was paying 25% more for renter insurance (same exact coverage) than my friend was.
