How ironic if the track went into the "Whispering Valley" area. They'll have to rename it the "20,000rpm v10 Wailing Valley" area.

It almost makes me wonder if the plans of F1 coming to Austin are falling through. He might not want people to start planning on the track coming to their area, because the track is not coming to Austin at all....This ought to be interesting.

I think it's a red herring. He said it was to "curb greed", he meant the greed of others, not him or other developers that are in on it. They may not have secured enough land yet for the developers in the vicinity of the track. Maybe it's not that complicated, maybe he was just screwing with the reporters. Who knows.

Does anyone remember back in the 80's when San Antonio had an F1 race downtown? If you lived here during that time, remember the race and consider yourself a fan. Why did the race not return?

That is exactly what I mean.

F-1 raced around Fair Park in Dallas in 1984. The race was an abysmal disaster. The temperature was over 100 degrees and the track fell apart. Over half the field fell out of the race due to the heat and accidents caused by the track coming up in big chunks. The series never returned.

F-1 has never (as far as I know) raced in San Antonio.

I believe you're thinking of the IMSA GTP race in San Antonio in the 80s. The whole race series had problems in the early 90s, and that style of racing (sports prototypes) later came back to the US as ALMS (American LeMans Series) in the late 90s.

Based on the data from the current F1 series - What is the typical attendance at an F1 race? Will they have more than one race during the weekend? What will the ticket price range be?

I lived in SA back then and was trying to remember the series. Thanks.
