There was a thread a while back about a string of home robberies in the Cedar Park area. If I remember correctly, it seemed like they were targeting people moving into homes or something. Does anybody know the current status of this? Has anybody been caught? Still going on?

My sister's friend had her car broken into at the Target out there a couple of weeks ago. They took a screwdriver to the lock.

Yeah, Cedar Park is starting to get a high crime rate for some reason...

Contact your local police department, they do not appear to make it easy to find crime statistics on the internet. Police Reports - Cedar Park Police Department

If there has been a recent increase in crime in the area I could not find any evidence of it in a google news web search for "crime cedar park texas".

I found some crime statistics for Cedar Park on the City-Data page, unfortunately it only shows 1999-2003. http://www.city-data.com/city/Cedar-Park-Texas.html The crime levels looked pretty low during those years, far below the US Average.

I found crime statistics for 2007 here on the FBI website: Table 8 (Texas) - Crime in the United States 2007 (http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2007/data/table_08_tx.html - broken link)

The increases from 2003 to 2007 don't seem to bad considering how the population has grown.

The Community Impact Newsletter focuses on Cedar Park as one if its areas. I did a search on its website, and again found no indication of an increase in crime in the Cedar Park area. All of the hits I got indicated CP has very low crime statistics.

Search (http://impactnews.com/search?cx=010709005715886827102%3Anj_e6q66us0&cof= FORID%3A10%3BNB%3A1&ie=UTF-8&q=crime+cedar+park - broken link)

I have also searched this forum for previous threads about robbery, robberies, or an increase in crime in Cedar Park and can not find anything. I did find one thread reporting 2 murders in CP, but it turns out one of them was 7 years ago and both were between husband and wife. The murder rate in CP is very, very low.

So I'm beginning to think the OP was mistaken regarding his inquiry.

I don't recall a thread on the topic but I did read about it in the news. These were home robberies in Cedar Park; the article had a map with the marked locations of the robberies. The robberies were occurring during the day after people had left their homes. They also reported the robber had knocked on the door (to see if the owner was home) and made up something if they answered. This came out a couple of months ago but I haven't heard anything since.

Here ya go. A simple google of "Cedar Park" and "burglaries" turned these up:

WilcoCrimeStoppers

Austin American-Statesman

KXAN ("This problem has accelerated in the past month," said Captain Jeff Hayes with the Cedar Park Police Department.)

Cedar Park Citizen

All of these are from mid-March 2010. I don't see anything to indicate that there have been any arrests or, really, anything mentioned since then. Might be worth contacting one of the above and suggesting they do a follow-up story.

So, no, the OP wasn't mistaken about it happening, but perhaps about what forum the thread was on.

Haven't heard anything else about it, Zach, and neither has Dwayne. I think you're safe. :-)
