I am a migrant living in Auckland. We are a family of 4, with 2 young kids - 7 and 3. We have an income of about NZD120K in Auckland and are living quiet happily. I am now offered a job in Sydney at a salary of AUD 125K. I understand that the cost of living is higher in Sydney. So would this be enough for my family to maintain the same family lifestyle (We are not shopaholic either). Will we be able to manage the rent (currently paying $450/wk), schooling, food, utilities, etc? Basically is Sydney more expensive than Auckland?
You should factor in that you will 'lose' 9% of your Australian salary in superannuation payments every month.
I'd say that this is just an opening offer from your new employer - they're more or less matching your Auckland salary. Hold out for a bit more and ask them to stump up for moving costs, visas etc.
If you're going over on anything less than a permanent residence visa you should be asking for a LAFHA too.
