I have heard that it is easier to get a VISA if you work certain trades. Does anyone know what jobs are in highest demand?

I have looked at that website a few times, but it always seems to be "in process of being updated" or "information outdated"

Because there aren't enough local university training places allocated, nurses and doctors are pretty well positioned to come to Australia. There are of course some hoops that need to be gone through in terms of registration, but a lot do it and it can be a great opportunity to experience a different culture while getting paid in the process!

Speaking of mining, I thought this article is a good read. Its an honest discussion for Australians working overseas and who are thinking of moving back home (pros and cons):

quotes:
1. Is now a good time to come back to Australia?
This is the question I’m asked most and the answer depends on the reason you are thinking of moving back to Australia. For the most part I would say that it's personal reasons that should drive your move back. Unless you are unemployed or seriously unhappy with your employment overseas then your primary reason for coming back should be to be closer to family and friends, or for children’s schooling or because you miss the lifestyle.
This is because unless you’re a mining professional or in a related profession there’s no guarantee that you’ll move back into a position that’s better or even the same than the one you are currently in overseas.
You have to make a decision around the trade-off of personal benefits against potential career limitation. Are you prepared to accept a lesser job (responsibility, opportunities and salary), for at least the foreseeable future, in return for the perceived personal benefits of coming home?
