Absolutely retarded all this "carbon neutral" nonsense.
Any greenhouse owner knows if you want your plants to grow, increase the CO2. Plants eat CO2 and the more of it, the more they eat and the more they grow.
This jive of making CO2 some bad gas is so out of whack with reality.
Nature always balances itself out. Might not happen overnight but it does.
All it will take is one big volcano to go off to wipe out any carbon neutral gains people think they made.
ha! I said that this morning... but what about when our 5000 year old volcano erupts~ then what!?
Yep! I just purchased a flight with Qantas. When I saw the "would you like to go carbon neutral" I laughed.
Not likely. Not when you're going to be passing on the cost of this tax...
When I was flying back and forth to Melbourne for work, the company always paid this indulgence to seem green. I did a bit of research on where that money goes. When I found out it goes to China to plant trees I almost spit. Poor China, needs our money to plant trees, and of course, nudge nudge, wink wink, that's exactly where it goes.
I've read about other cases about this tree-planting carbon offset money being used by tree-planting companies who were going to plant trees anyway, even without this money, because that's what they do: plant trees. So they happily take this extra money to make somebody feel warm and fuzzy.
Hears a better Idea, why dont we wait until all that filthy gas blows up to Asia, then let our banks sell the them "Carbon Credits" to clean it all up.
That would solve the nations financial problems quick smart.
well. Its here.
What do we think?
I haven't had a real chance to go through it all... Apart from the idea that $10.10 in compensation, with a $9.90 tax increase... don't spend the 20c too quickly!
Also the tax change of increasing the tax-free threshold by a large amount.
I do agree with stopping the brown coal energy plants. It has annoyed me for some time that we burn brown coal here and export black coal
Increase the tax free threshold to $ 18,200 a year. Sounds a bit of a bribe there? Afraid I remain skeptical when it comes to taxes increasing and at the same time making folk better off.
May appear that way to gain acceptance but further down the track.........

ahhhh! are you freakin joking!
I don;t mind the planting trees ( I figured it was something like that). but for goodness sake what about HERE. seeing WE'RE paying for it

I reckon we'd be a blimp on their filthy emissions...
This whole carbon credit bizzo is confusing to me... anyone know more about it?

The Kyoto protocol gave countries a quota of carbon they could emit. Those countries in turn issued certificates to local businesses detailing how many tonnes of carbon they could emit. If a business had not used all its carbon credits by the end of the year then they would be allowed to trade those credits in a market. There is also the ability for national governments to auction carbon credits to the highest bidder. FWIW these markets already exist (I believe there are five or six markets where they can be traded).
I'm not opposed to a carbon tax, but I do believe it's been largely done to appease the Greens. And I'm afraid economic issues are well above those basket weavers. How many manufacturing jobs can you replace with jobs down at the local wind farm?

I think that added that to appease the masses, but it hasn't seemed to have worked.

Cheers for that.
FWIW, I'm of the idea, that we shouldn't be wasteful just because we can. I don't really need to be told that I should turn off electrical items when not in use, like some wasteful princess (although I understand that people are different, and yes, some do need to be reminded).
But, I don't like being taken for a ride nor being taxed willy nilly. The proof will be in how it works, and whether we see real changes.
Out of curiosity, what do like about a carbon tax? And I agree... the Greens held the power. I am sure Labor will be asking for something in return soon enough.
Would a single-person "household" earning $65,000~80,000 per annum be financially advantaged or disadvantaged from Gillard's new plan?
NB) Not me, just someone I know as an e.g.
