LAUNCESTON, Australia, July 14 (UPI) -- Officials in an Australian town said they are considering silencing a 102-year-old clock at night due to concerns the chimes are driving away tourists.

The Launceston City Council said it is reviewing requests from hoteliers in the city, the second-largest in Tasmania with a population of 100,000, to have the clock installed above the General Post Office silenced between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. so as not to disturb the sleep of tourists, the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph reported

I stayed at a hotel right next to the Post Office not that long ago, it's not that irritating.

How loud is the chiming? If it is keeping up people I don't think people will miss it if they give it a rest for those hours.
