Remember how bad the AUD was in the 1990s?
No, I don't remember the 90's exchange rate but I do remember Nov 2008 when it plummetted to .65. Like, suddenly!

Americans moving here, like cskame (maybe), are probably hoping and wishing the dollar keeps diving.

But you get paid in aud so trips back stateside get expensive. And if you convert to usd, that's a big pay cut.
So csk should be forwarned about these cycles. I was paid in aud and I went back stateside yearly and kept my investment portfolio in new York. I contributed less when the aud tanked.

I remember that month. I went crazy buying things. David jones was my mate for a month.
In Jan of 2008 it was low .90s. Quit a big drop.

I'm glad we exchanged what we needed before. We averaged 1.074 so we did good.

It just might do that for you. Good luck, hope you get your wish.
Yep you did good. I was worried you guys would hold out for too long.

US$ is back as flavor of the day and China is slowing down, so I think the AUD is going down.

No, we didn't want to get greedy. The way we looked at it was, given how low the AUD has been, and only recently at that, anything above par was a bonus. A few years ago when we decided to make the move we were looking at losing 20% on our money, so this has been great.

The China slow-down could be the big rampaging elephant in the room for Australia. And Greece. And the EU. And the carbon tax. And ...

A trip we made to the US in 2000, we got .56 for our dollar. I think that was just about as low as it's ever been. That was one expensive trip!

Yuk, sounds like when we went Sep/Oct 2002 - I believe it was around that level as well, maybe even lower. I remember looking at prices and just doubling them. We still had a great time though and found it was easy to be frugal in the US and still eat well and pick up some good deals.

In the future you guys will become a stronger economy that will sustain itself through rough times. Your not doing so bad now.

You have one of the fastest growing economies in the world and two decades of uninterrupted economic growth. You have the 13th largest economy in the world and growing!

Australia has a lot of natural resources and is in a very strategic location on the globe. I think you guys are headed in the right direction.
