Yeah the Cronulla Riots lol....wasn't that show Sylvania Waters set there? I don't remember watching it when it was on but have seen clips on TV. They were portrayed as a typical bogan family.

I do wonder if working class areas really are more racist etc...I think it's more common to encounter 'get our of my country' attitudes in those places, perhaps even moreso than country areas. Country folk can be closed-minded and a bit racist but they tend to be friendlier. Whereas some people in the outer suburbs can just be plain nasty.

Sutherland Shire always seemed like a wealthy area, since it looks pretty nice. I guess there must be 'poorer areas' (comparatively speaking) there. Places like Cabramatta or Liverpool are very ethnic and working class and they didn't seem very friendly.

I think that's more a big city attitude rather than a socioeconomic thing.

Put the shoe on the other foot, how would you feel if someone with money said "maybe I am biased against them because they are poor"?

There's rich aholes and poor aholes. I don't think someone's bank balance determines or is even a very good indicator of what sort of person they are.

Sylvania Waters was a bogan family that had come into ""new money"" , and now living in a wealthy suburb.
Most of the Sutherland Shires is middle class, with pockets of real wealth on water front areas like Sylvania, but overall not particulalry friendly.
On the subject of outer suburbs, it is a generalisation but they often have more socioeconomic problems - which tends to make them uncouth and less friendly, verging on hostile.
Places like Gosford and Wyong on the Central Coast also come to mind, Rockingham and Mandurah in WA another.

Yeah like our Beverly Hillbillies. Where were they supposed to have come from anyway, Blacktown? lol Wonder if it was mentioned in the show.

Yeah drug use and petty crime seems to be bad in certain areas in the Southeast, central North and Southern suburbs. Kwinana has a reputation as being the poorest part of the Perth metro (it has the lowest mean house prices) and also has a reputation as having a high crime rate.

I can say that the most friendliest people in Australia lives here in ACT, I remember during my first time here and I was lost, I went to this group of people to ask a particular place in Canberra (i cannot mention the name exactly), without a doubt they help me to find it.

Australians are very friendly, probably not so much in extreme areas eg, very wealthy and those full of immigrants (poor). The general atmosphere soon changes the immigrants though and makes them almost as friendly after a while, witness your average vietnamese or italian neighbour. Australia is very big, warm, and relaxed and it's hard to be up yourself when all you hear of an evening is people laughing while they are cooking their bbq. Generally speaking the smaller the city the more friendly. Adelaide where I live is like a big country town and you can't go anywhere without someone striking up a conversation with you.

Hungry Head Beach in Bellingen Shire has 6 "No Camping or Vehicles Stopping" signs in a 30 metre stretch of car park. Considering it's the only stopping point on a particularly bad spot (just south of Urunga) on the Pacific Highway I'd rate that as unfriendly & downright dangerous.

Australians have a rude, cold, strange and mean nature, it doesn't matter where in Australia you are. I have been to Sydney, people there are discustingly rude, they look at you in strange ways like they are mentally ill, you can't understand their personality and strangeness, they beep the horn at you rudely when you are just jogging, trying to get in while driving, etc. They stare at your kids and chase after them for no reason? They have a sickness when it comes to children? It's like that all over Australia. If you need help they ignore you.

In Canberra, and everywhere else in Australia, you will never ever know your neighbours name, they will never say hello. You will never find anyone to be friends with in a life time? They will never invite you over in a life time? They will never offer you anything in a life time? How do these people give to charity when it comes to religion? All they are good at doing is calling the police, going to court, complaining to certain companies, etc. No one helps you with anything, they are very good at being rude and giving people the stare of death, there is no sign, feel, talk, or anything of religion, I think there is no religion in this country. I have never in my entire life seen any Australians praying. Are they too imbarressed to pray to God? Does any one here believe in God who created them and the world to live in as a test for the here after which is Heaven? All you hear in this country from the people and on tv is racist bull**** about religion made up and repeated for the last 15 years or so about Muslims being terrorists ever since that made up bull**** on tv in America about September 11 about 2 buildings being demolished and purposely and falsely put on Muslims just to make the whole world hate them when really it was an inside job done by your own fellow Americans so you white stupid people in Australia rather than calling Muslims terrorists get your facts strait and call your own white people in America terrorists. I rest my case. I am not stupid like yous and do not follow the crowd. I have a brain and I use it. In Canberra they have no understanding when it comes to anything, especially if you have kids. Why don't they just let kids be kids instead of yelling at them, staring at them, chasing after them, tying then down, yelling at the parents, everyone has kids, they have kids, you have kids, we all use to be kids, so why treat other people and their kids so rudely? It's sickening, we want to be free and happy like normal sane human beings. Why are people so angry and full of hate? Does any one here know what happiness is? Does any one here know what love is? Does any one here believe in God? Does any one here want to be nice and friendly?
I guess not. Everyone here is different than me and my family. We don't fit in. Every one hates us. We seem different to them? I don't understand why?

In the Gold Coast it is horrible. All any one cares about is money and being bossy. If you want to return anything to any store or business, or if you have been ripped off and you want to get your money transferred back into your account through your bank in the Gold Coast all you will get there is the yelling of your life right in your face, they will literally yell and shout in your face when it comes to money, that is the most nastiest service I have ever encountered in my life. It is crazy and rude up there. I couldn't take any more, I was there for a few days and everyday was yucky. There was no enjoyment of beach life at all. It was a crappy holiday for me and my family. Waste of thousands of dollars. Not cheap going on a holiday in this country. More like a drag than a holiday and sucks your money dry too.

In Melbourne, I've only been in the airport, it was horrible, some woman came up to my 3 year old child and grabbed her and was taking her some where just because she was playing happily a few meters away from me which does not mean she is lost, clearly as I am watching her from the seat, I don't know where she was taking her, so I quickly got off my chair and took my child from here, she then walked off without saying anything, strange? What was she doing to my child? Another woman later on in a different part of the airport, a cleaner that works there, came up to my two kids, a 2 year old and a 3 year old, and took them away down the airport as she does not want them with my mum which is their grandma. Strange? Who does she think she is? Why doesn't she just bloody mind her own business and do her cleaning work? Melbourne airport has a lot of weirdos there. That was one of the worst experiences of my life in this country.

I rate Australia a big zero.

1) There is no human communication, they are wild animals that haven't been trained how to talk to people and invite them over for a visit and a friendly chat.

2) They have no happiness and peace and love in their hearts if they know what that means.

3) No friends and visiting in a life time.

4) They hate and control other peoples kids and are only nice to their own kids.

5) They are hippocrites, they tell you off for everything that you do, but if they do it it's ok.

6) They never smile and if they do it's fake it does not mean anything.

7) You will never understand them.

8) They never give anything not even a piece of food or help, they are that greedy, no hospitality at all, never in your life.

9) The only places you will ever visit and be taken to is the police station and court.

10) People try to get the government to take your kids off you even for no bloody proper valid reason.

11) Life is so boring you will want to commit suicide like all the other depressed people here with anxiety.

12) People are boring, no sense of humour, angry, racist, serious, crazy, crook, etc.

13) Too may expensive traffic fines and parking fines that will leave you no money for food for the rest of your life if you get fined every day or week or month.

14) It's just school or work, nothing else. No life.

15) No positive people, all negative.

16) Everyone has a dog and or cat.

17) Everyone actually eats pig here, even though it is against every religion on this earth. And is not for human consumption. I was right, they're all animals. Strange?

18) Everyone drinks a lot of alcohol.

19) Everyone takes drugs.

20) A lot of people smoke, especially people in wheel chairs, strange?

21) Houses cost nearly a million dollars now, even if it's a piece of **** in Sydney. No one will ever be able to pay it off in a life times of work, especially with fines totalling thousands of dollars every few months and bills costs are through the roof, so expensive here.

22) Lots of bullies on busses and at schools.

23) People are overall rude and crappy.

24) Commercial properties costs millions of dollars, there is no bloody way you can ever pay it off and make any profit out of it in a life time, same with the houses. Life is **** here, full stop.

25) Cars cost 25 times more here than most other countries. This country is a bloody joke. It's a waste of life working to pay anything off.

26) Everyone is stressed and evil.

27) The medical system is a fraud. Doctors leave you suffering, even when they know what the answer is they don't tell you or help you at all. And they leave you for months going to appointments taking medications, to GPs to specialists to scans to hospital. Actually they make you suffer for years before referring you to surgery which also takes months and years to wait your turn. What hell.

28) The law/system is not fair, it is strange, dodgy, weird, horrible, racist, in court. It takes years where as in other countries it would take a few minutes. You have to get a lawyer and barrister which takes all your money costs more than $10000 and gets you no where only with a guilty punishment. You can't get more ****ed than that.

29) Life is hell here, and the Australians are proud of themselves. Ha Ha Ha, what a joke.

30) No proper food. All there is is burgers all day, KFC, Mcdonalds, Hungry Jacks, what a joke.

31) No where to go, no family, no friends, no relatives. Just hell.

32) No religion.

33) No personalities, everyone copies the dogs, like a heard of cattle.

34) Hard work, no time for rest or life.

35) Too restricted, no freedom.

36) So many murderers on the loose because the police is too stupid to catch them.

37) People give you the stare of death for nothing instead of just letting everyone and themselves enjoy life.

38) Everything is lengthy and difficult, like getting your passport done, instead of getting it renewed on the spot you have to do several things and it takes weeks and you have to wait to get it in the mail. Life is hard here. The people think that they are living better than other countries. Bull ****. This is one of the worst. America is the nastiest.

This is one of the most nonsensical posts, full of generalizations I have come across here. Before you go on a rant, you may want to learn how to write a paragraph.

Perth - Friendly by Australian standards, but has become less so. Perth people can strike up a convo quite naturally.

Melbourne - Friendlier than you'd expect. I've had as many conversations with strangers/people help me as in Perth. You still get a bit of the big city curtness (the drivers for instance).

Sydney - The worst city I've been to. Lots of rude and pushy people, but again a generalisation. I never felt very comfortable in the posh Eastern suburbs where my aunty lives. People there seem suspicious and very private. There seem to be more tourists/out of towners and business people in the CBD.

Adelaide - A bit of a mixed bag but subjectively speaking I didn't find them particularly friendly. SA people seem parochial, conservative and stuck in the past. Much of the 'burbs of Adelaide are bogan central.

Brisbane - Similar to Perth. They still have more of a small town familarity vs Sydney and Melbourne to an extent. I haven't spent that much time here so can't say much.

Gold Coast - Basically the Australian version of Vegas or Miami as far as people go. Full of tourists, transients and oldies.

Rural areas

WA...country areas tend to be a bit friendlier, places like Margaret River with a lot of sea changers less so...Bridgetown is a mixed bag. Folks in the Wheatbelt, Midwest, Kimberley embody the older Australian spirit.

Had some weird experiences in some of the smaller towns in SA. Walked into a pub once and everyone just stared at me. I asked them where the nearest servo was and you could hear a pin drop. Never experienced that anywhere else in Oz but that was just one town so who knows...some rural parts of SA were pretty friendly like the Barossa but maybe they do that to butter up tourists.

Rural Queensland I didn't find particularly friendly or bad either way. But then I didn't spent much time there.

Hard to say about rural NSW...it varied a bit, but not particularly friendly either. Rural Vic maybe a bit moreso actually.

Tasmanians were pretty friendly. Some of them are stuck in the 1950s or something. They aren't as friendly as New Zealanders from the South Island though imo.

In my many journeys to Australia, I have always experienced Australia as a friendly country. Among the friendliest were the Tasmanians.

That being said, of all the big cities I found the residents of Adelaide the most inaccessible, almost frosty in their approach to people
