Default Is Woolloongabba a good place to live?

I'm thinking of moving to Brisbane and was wondering what the general consensus is about Woolloongabba? Is it a good place to live?

What's the employment situation like? (I've worked in admin. support for about 20 yrs. in mid-large size companies). Any employment agencies you would recommend?

I'm also an artist and linguist (Russian/Ukrainian) so what's the "culture" scene like in the area?

I live about 5km from Woolloongabba sometimes often its just called "The Gabba" its well known for the famous Cricket/Afl stadium that dominates the suburb.

Its one of thoes sort of inner city suburbs that a decade ago was a pretty run down old place, with a bad reputation and in bad need of an unrban renewal project, which is currently happening.

Old run down buildings are being restored, large unit complexs are being built, and suburban streets are becoming trendy/expensive resteraunt precidents. The redevlopment is still going on and the suburb still has some of that old feel about it.

Im not really into the arts/culture scene but think it would be one of the better places in Brisbane for that sort of thing and it is not far from palces where its more well known.

It's inner city, rents are expensive, the public transport around the gabba is excellent by Australian Standards, you might be driven crazy every time their is an AFL or cricket match on at the stadium however.

I assume you would know that Brisbanes main Russian Orthodox Church is in the Gabba?

Shoud add its one of the more ethnically diverse suburbs of Brisbane - 30% non english speaking in 2006 , has a compemporty aborigional art gallary, and aside from the stadium is also well known for the numerous antique stores which line the streets.

I'm living in West End for 5 months on a workterm and the area is great, only been here 2 weeks so far. Wooloongabba is nearly as close to the main city and river, and has plenty of facilities in the area. Plus it's not as expensive as some other areas. I'd say it's absolutely a good place to live.
