Default Australian Pay Rate

I'm wondering how the payroll in Australia works because I'm considering countries I'd like to move to or at least visit for a lengthy time and I notice that in Australia, I'm finding an average of rooms costing about 200 per week which here in the states is quite pricey for a shared place.

Thanks!

Well it depends on where and what you will be doing. There is no actual federal minimum wage across the board but there are minimum wages for specific industries. On average if you were doing bar work and in the mid-twenties in Sydney you are looking at about $18 an hour before tax.

As a American living in Australia, and now a Australian Citizen, it is a great place to live. If you are willing to work, there are plenty of good paying jobs. The free medical system is good as well. As long as you are healthy and well off.
