Spent Christmas in Melbourne I was looking forward to the laneway 'foodie' culture. I didn't know the lanes were still used to store garbage! Eating a nice meal while the scent of rotting food wafts over is not pleasant. The trams were incredibly slow and full of deadbeats. The place is definitely overrated.
So predictable from this Sydney-centric parochial idiot.
I think its all relative. Yes, they were saying the weather was lovely. And while it was sunny, I kept on thinking: This is cold. There is no humidity. Everyone is in singlet tops and Im freezing.
It's unfortunate but you seem to have a condition known as being a 'complete softcock'. It's unfortunate for you as there's no cure.
These Melbournites just can't handle the truth it seems lol
They kept saying to me "look at our wide streets!" "Look at our bewdaful weather" "Our trams are great!". "Isn't Melbourne the best??" The best thing is just to nod and smile.
Sydney's culture (outdoor lifestyle) is more comparable to Brisbane anyway. In fact Brisbanites remind me of Sydneysiders before mass migration came to town here.

You just have a handle on something else....

As if Sydney doesn't have people that boast about their city and slag off Melbourne for no good reason - you being a prime example

Living in Sydney can be frustrating (to say the least), but I will defend it over the regional cities and towns when they claim to have greener grass/wider streets/laneway cultures ect as if that is the pinnacle of civilization.
Unfortunately I have to travel to Victoria often and the minute you say you're from Sydney, you get the whole..."Our streets are wider! Our shopping is better! Our winter is colder! Our streets are cleaner! Our Asians are more Asian" ect ect.
For those who don't get out of the 'burbs to go south of the border much they wouldn't have to deal with it all
Sydney to me is overrated. It has it's nice parts but as a whole is overrated.
The Gold Coast is a bit overrated too, but they don't hide the fact they are a bit trashy anyways.
Agree. We need to compare expectations and hype versus actual reality.
While I think Sydney, regardless of hype, isn't a bad place to live, I found it overrated in many regards. And this may seem like a surprise, but I think Brisbane is an underrated place to live. Great weekend markets, much friendlier, love the river and surrounding parts, superb climate etc.
ha if i was from Melboring i would have my handle on it all the time
