How about "no chance".

However if he joins the US military, the US Navy makes a lot of port calls in Australia and the US Marines are stationing a permanent detachment in the country in the NT. In addition if he gets years of experience and skills in the US military, a decade down the road he might be able to get sponsored into the Australian military.

Of all of the Americans I have known of who got sponsored into the Australian or NZ military, none of them had less than 10 years experience in the US military and they were all very skilled people. They were pilots, doctors, special forces soldiers and nurses.

Like I said in my post- if he does go into the U.S. Military first, it would be wise to choose an MOS with transferable and highly valued skills to give him an even better chance of going into the Australian Defense Force should he still wish to at a later date.
