I don't live in Melbourne - been there heaps though but you have made a good choice - The World's Most Livable City ! Will be fine for gay people - very progressive and classy city. Good luck!
Melbourne is a tolerant city with a sizable gay community. I've seen same-sex PDA's in public and no one batted an eyelid.
It depends on what lifestyle you want and your budget.
Some of the northern and western and far eastern suburbs have a bad rap, but sometimes I think it's exaggerated.
Yes, Melbourne is relatively safe, especially compared to most American cities.
Yes, as long as you're not out in the outer suburbs. There are trams, trains and buses.
I actually plan to move there myself, soon. It's a great city, plenty of culture, great food, nice and green, very walkable, diverse. I hope to move in one of the inner suburbs, such as North Melbourne, Fitzroy, Carlton, South Melbourne.etc.
hey Artemis Agrotera, im willing to spend around 600 or 650 a month max on rent. However, im willing to share a room.
Ok, if you want to live close to the city, with that rent you'll have to share /rent a room.., as posted gumtree & I think domain advertise rooms for rent (www.domain.com.au)
In terms of areas, st kilda, fitzroy, Windsor/prahran, & surrounding suburbs would be your best bet... You won't need a car and these areas are quite diverse
Melbourne's a great city. You'll have a good time. I assume you have a job lined up or some way to support yourself and have met all the visa requirements a Yank needs to move there?
no TruDat..... I have the all the Visa stuff met, but i have no job lined up. Im getting a 1 year work and holiday visa, which really only allows me to have like cafe, serving, retail type jobs. its available for kids who are in their first year out of college
