If you look at all these locations that use this name, you can see they're all highly isolated, few Australian's would live near these topographical features let alone know their names.
Because this isn't America. That word doesn't have the same historical context.
It wasn't offensive anywhere at one time. Now it's offensive everywhere. OP, get onto the Dept of Natural Resources like the PP mentioned and they'll be gone soon.
It's funny that once common words are now the most horrible things in the world you can say, even when people of that color in the USA describe themselves as such.
We've even had stupid, uninformed, idiotic hacks chastise people for using the word "*****rdly", which has nothing to do with race or anything about it.

The truth is that it is just a corruption of the word negro (the color black) in Spanish, a completely neutral term no maligned in English. It's the context, manner and intonation that turns the word into a slur. Take the word "communist", for example. In the US it is an insult in other places it simply defines a socio-economic system.
Yet another post trying to paint Australian's as racist. What a sad person you are to have all this time to find such obscure names from places most of us haven't heard named after a word with no significant meaning in Australia.
Moderators, can anyone delete this pathetic attempt to beat the racist stereotype to death?

No, it's a slur if anyone who's not black uses it. Just because the f word refers to loving relations and the c word to genitalia and the s word to defecatory product doesn't make any of them polite terms.
The N word is the N word everywhere in the world now adays. That's why the GM of an Italian soccer club got in big trouble recenlty ofr referring to Marco Ballotelli as our "fasmily N***A". Racism is prevelent in Europe it's really sad.

Who cares? Go to Japan, Korea or China and learn what real racism is.

No it's not. It's a slur only if someone intends it as such. And why should someone accept it? I've had guys call me a "biittcchh" before because it's the worst thing some people can think to say about a woman but the word isn't the issue, it's the person saying it to me. I'll take up my problems with whoever I have them with but name calling isn't worth my energy.
I say we keep everything as is and stop being offended by the word, establish new and non insulting meanings to it. Maybe some people can't, but in the future most will be able to. It's being used today by young people already to mean buddy, amigo, etc. Like it or not people your feelings don't count in the future and the world doesn't carry things on in perpetuity.
