I think Rudd is a narcissistic tosser who knows that, even with His Glorious Self at the helm, the September election is 99% unwinnable. I think he wants Labor to lose, Gillard to resign, then he will come in to lead the party in opposition with a view to winning the election three years down the track. In this way he can also blame the Libs for all the stuff he can't fix.

Just my 02.
Bang on, a lot of union types will lose their seats and in the run up to the election Rudd will only be seen at his MP supporters electorates.
As the old saying goes across the floor is the opposition our enemies are on this side of the house.
Yep Kevin Rudd only cares for Kevin Rudd. He's painted himself as the angel for sticking to a commitment that he would not challenge Gillard in the absence of overwhelming caucus support, as opposed to his own ousting in 2010 (he's quick to forget he did the same to Beazley in '06, that's just the nature of Oz politics). I think we all know the only reason he didn't formally stand as a candidate in the ballot today is that he lacked a majority of 1 and was only interested in maintaining his personal 'clean' image leaving respected MP's such as Crean hanging.
This mole continues to undermine the Labor party, hoping that the polls continue to flounder and that his colleagues turn to him as their great white hope If nothing else he's got his revenge and succeeded in putting another nail in this government's coffin.
Abbot's motion of no confidence failed as well. He didn't get the required 76 votes, however he did have the majority - 73 to 71.
Ah well, let the circus continue until September.
That was only a motion to suspend standing orders, ie a motion to allow the motion of no confidence to be debated. Unlikely the independents would have supported the no confidence motion.

Yep.
He wants them to grovel.
Could have been a stunt. This puts to bed the leadership stories.
(did have a chuckle, they can't even do a spill properly )
Hells bells, does this mean we will have Father Abbott and Cocky Hockey !!!!
