Default Mcdonald's penetration

McDonald's restaurants also have much higher penetration in Australia and New Zealand than they do into United Kingdom or other countries in Europe.

McDonald's has a difficult time in Mexico where the chain is often viewed as an assault on their culture. McDonald's are frequently picketed, although to be fair the culture does picket a lot.

It's just the calories in the food. Subway involves either something very bland or something with more calories than your average McD's burger.

Their meats are terrible

If I have to get subway, it'd be the vegie one only.

There are plenty of sandwich shops in Australia, which are just as fast & better product

I know its not good for me, but I'd rather have a meat pie, lamb shank pie.. yum. Or a hot dog.

Funny a friend from Sydney introduced me to NY hot dogs. All the years I lived in NY I refused to buy street food (Except water or a Coke). I meet Miss fancy Mosman girl at her suite at Waldorf and she walks to the first street vendor and buys a hot dog loaded. She ate at least 2-3 a day and got me to try my first NYC street vendor hot dog. It was good. Much better than Subway or Maccas or xxx... but a toss up between meat pie as best unhealthy food.

Subway is virtually the only american FF joint i ever visit, I usually drop in about once a month.

A six inch ham sub on wholegrain bread with all the salads and sweet Chili sauce would be my most common order by a big margin.
