I guess this tragic news is all over Australia by now:

Aussie baseball player killed by "bored" Okla. teens, police say - CBS News

Has there been a marked decline in gun violence in Australia since the gun laws over there were made more restrictive after the Port Arthur massacre?

Yep its headline news here.

And to answer your question, its a flat out "yes" better gun control and buyback has reduced deaths despite a growing population. There are plenty developed countries have even lower deaths per population, so the US anti-gun lobby has plenty of examples to point too.

Australia, annual deaths resulting from firearms total

Would say however there is growing concern around increasing gun ownership and gun violence, not entirely sure how much is justified or how much is media shock jock hysteria.

I am just speechless against such a mindless crime especially being committed by such young people.
That said, I see very little need for a trial in a case like this. All they need is a tree and some rope.

You can't say you want to hang a black person, no matter what they did, it's racist.

There has been but it's not related to the stricter gun laws. Crimes involving the use of a firearm had been falling and the trend just continued.

I think I saw recently that gun ownership in Australia was back to pre 1996 levels.

This type of barbaric behavior can happen anywhere, Australia included as it has had it's share of brutal murders, and the only thing to do is to hang em high or put them in a white room for the rest of their life.

I used to live near Duncan, OK and just passed through there in May. It's just an ordinary midwest town.

It's times like these I'm tempted to support the death penalty. These psychopaths should definitely never see the light of day again.

I was reading the book Freakonomics and their theory is pro-abortion laws is the real cause of reduced crime. People who abort tend to be the ones that produce criminals, interesting premise.

Don't try to play the race card by yelling that line because:
a) I never mentioned or implied color, you did.
b) More importantly, I would say that for anyone who can commit a crime like this and then say "I was bored", regardless of skin color, creed, nationality or gender, etc.
