I voted ACDC. ACDC are one of the biggest bands ever, and have a huge following worldwide and in the US.

As much as i would hate to admit it - Crocodile Dundee!

I wonder what the reception to the movie in Australia would be if it was released in 2013 and not 1986?

Depends on your understanding of "impact".

Adding to the Aus stereotype in the US, Croc Dundee.

But ACDC is clearly the biggest entertainers/band.

The OP wasn't specific...in terms of impact of any kind, it has to be ACDC. As Australian icons, then yes, Croc Dundee/Croc Hunter of course. I'm sure many aren't even aware ACDC is Aussie.

AC/DC is definitely the biggest name out there but how many people know them as Australian. Many Americans would be hard pressed and either think they are American, Canadian or British.

Steve Irwin and Flight of the Conchords definitely are up there but I think that for better or for worse Australians are still compared to Crocodile Dundee.
