What is the job situation like, particularly in the film industry? I'm going to be graduating with an MBA from an Ivy League university next year and am considering the possibility of working abroad for a few years. Always been fascinated with the lands down under
NZ has a vibrant..But very small film industry, Which still manages to produce some great talent, Who operate under the New Zealand Film Commission (The government funded body That promotes and funds NZ films).
If you can get a job before you come to New Zealand at a salary you like, great, but I would caution you that Tall Poppy Syndrome is very real, and you might find your co-workers resent you for a) being foreign, specifically American, and b) having an advanced degree, and c) suggesting anything innovative at all. There is an undercurrent in Kiwi culture that dismisses everything from overseas and believes the Kiwi way is the best way, even if, say, the Kiwi way is the way the rest of the world did things 20-30 years ago.
You could luck out and find a job with well-traveled, forward-thinking people, but don't be surprised if that doesn't happen.
