I'm talking about the city in which a clear and wide majority of the population was born in Australia.... they can be of any background, but they have to be born in Australia.... which city has that highest percentage?

Here is the 10 largest Metro's by population in the country, and their Australian Born %.

Sydney - 59.9%
Melbourne - 63.3%
Brisbane - 70.3%
Perth - 59.6%
Adelaide - 70.2%
Gold Coast - 65.4%
Newcastle - 85.2%
Canberra - 71.4%
Sunshine Coast - 75.3
Wollongong - 74.2%

So by that measure its Newcastle by quite some margin, which I find quite surprising.

This totally excludes all the people who did not answer the census question about where they were born (Typically about 5-6% of the population), so the Actual Australian born % in each case will be higher.

So Brisbane and Adelaide seem to have the highest percentage of Australian-born people as far as capital cities go.

Despite having a higher % of foreign born than Melbourne, most people probably wouldn't know it. Perth has the most British born of any capital city (in sheer numbers not just %). Yep, more than Sydney or Melbourne which have more than twice our population. We also have a lot of Kiwis and South Africans.

My area has a high proportion of "white' residents. Most immigrants settle out west.
