If you were to rank Australian cities by 'hilly'...which cities have the most hills to them?

Cities including Melbourne, Sydney, Hobart, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide...if you want to add a few others due to exceptionally flat or hilly, be sure to add them!

I found Sydney and Brisbane to have some hills to them....and I found Melbourne to be a bit flat overall. I didn't make it to the other cities, but viewing Perth, it APPEARS to be more flat-like much like Melbourne, but it is difficult to see in photos. I did see that Melbourne did have some hills in the greater metro, but I didn't get that feel much in the city itself.

Hobart looks quite hilly, with views almost everywhere.

Nonetheless, if you were to rank Australian cities by 'hilly' to 'flat'....with the hilly ones ranking highest, how would your rank them?

And as a follow-up, would people consider PERTH as flat? Is Western Australia generally flat?

I tried to view on google maps, and it appears that way, but difficult to see clearly.

You're right about Melbourne, the city is very flat (making it very walkable), but as you go east - north/east suburbs there are more hills.
Sydney has more hills - I haven't walked enough in Perth, but it is quite flat (well the city area, at least).

Yep, I love the Sydney hills! Especially along the coast. Brisbane has some nice hills around there too.

How about Adelaide? I don't have a good sense of that city at all.

Sydney and Hobart are hilly, Launceston too (<- some MIGHTY hills in Launceston!).

Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Darwin are all pretty flat cities.

I think Brisbane is somewhere in the middle.

i don't know Sydney well enough but it certainly is difficult to escape hills in Brisbane they are everywhere, in the areas i am most familiar with. I was reading the other day that 4.5km long inner city by bass has 4 tunnels and 18 bridges.

Sydney is very hilly. Its CBD main street is pretty much on a sloped hill. It feels like you're climbing the street. The western suburbs have so many elevated areas - That's why we have so many "[suburb name] heights" in here.

There is a ridgeline in the middle of Western Sydney (near Pemulwuy and Greystanes). On that steep ridge, you can see spectacular views of Sydney and the Blue Mountains.

...and I love Sydney for it! Even Bondi, its spectacular to take a turn on the main road, and overlook the entire beach, as you descend on it. Beautiful.

Yep. I love lookouts and scenic views. They give me a sense of spirituality and inner peace. And Sydney is full of them. Here is the ridge in western Sydney (Prospect Hill):

I find most Australian cities pretty flat, the CBD areas anyway. Sydney may have some modest hilly areas in the CBD and more just outside. Perth has some very modest hilly areas around and about including Kings park, Cottesloe, etc.
Hobart has some pretty hilly areas but they slope down to the CBD. Of all the cities in Australia, the only one I can remember seeing mountains from was Cairns. Very unusual for Australian cities.
