Hey everyone,
So this is something my wife and I have been wanting to do for a long time now. We want to immigrate from Honolulu to Australia. I'm an IT with 8 years of experience I have a wife and a 5 year old daughter.

So I was wondering a few things:
- As an IT will be able to find well paid work?
- Is it hard to get a PR visa?
- Would I have better chances in Sydney or Melbourne?

And any other things I should know would be awesome.
Thanks!!

The question isn't whether you should go, it is whether you can. If you can, never look back. You'll see my detailed vent on another recent thread I commented on. I'm out of the USA back home to Australia in 2019. The quality of life for your family doesn't even compare. Try child will have educations, actual quality education, great healthcare and not have her head blown off in school. I thank god I was raised there. You're used to Hawaii prices so Australia will not a be a culture shock. Sydney is amazing city. I don't know about your field but when I lived there in 2000 there was tons of all kinds of work and the city just rocks. Beaches, nightlife, activities, God I can't wait to move home.

Thats awesome to hear! I was just in the ACT for work and had a little free time in Sydney (amazing city)!

As far work Im a Network Admin/ System Admin trying to expand into CyberSecurity.

My would want to work but it would be my income from the start of it. What is a "good" single income salary for a family of 3 for Sydney?

That's really hard to answer, but Aussie wages will be higher most likely than the States or Hawaii would they? My son is a network engineer or something like that lol, and he earns $140k a year in Adelaide. He was on contract work in Melbourne a few years ago and I think the rate was about $80-$100 an hour. I don't know how that compares to what you're getting now?

Our minimum wage is higher, I was cleaning at a University a few hours a week quite a while ago now (hated cleaning), but was getting about $21.50 an hour plus super.

Rents are pretty high in Sydney, so the further out from the CBD you can live, the better, but there is a train system, although I've never lived in Sydney, so you'd have to check out travelling times to wherever your job was. I think you'd be looking at $500-$600 at least for a decent place to rent. That's a week.
